Chinook is a dual purpose hop that is quite popular for both its flavour and its aromatic value. Chinook is known for its smoothness and features a strong pine flavour, with noticeable grapefruit dashes as well. High alpha acids make this desirable and particularly effective for the modern IPA. The ideal alpha acid range for Chinook is between 12 and 14 percent with the desired beta acid range between 3 and 4 percent. This hop also is noted for having a high growth rate with potentials for very high yields when cared for properly.
